Cheatsheet RETURN & EARN
Easy-to-follow setup below:
We have 2 streams to turn 10c trash into $$$ for the school:
- Via the Return & Earn APP - set to donate to our school.
- Via DROP-OFF BINS next to dropoff gate (One day a week)
Below pls find a cheatsheet on how we set up both of these:
HOW WE SET UP Return & Earn APP
Anyone Anywhere in NSW - far flung Friends & Family - can donate their 10c for Ca$h for your School.
SETTING up the APP :
- Visit the Return and Earn Fundraising Page to apply to “Become a donation Partner”. Here is the form: https://au.prod.mytomra-charity.tomra.cloud/login
- Fill out the Donation Partner Application Form (FAQs are here : https://mytomra.com.au/faqs-nsw/)
- Email the completed form and supporting documentation (such as your ACN/incorporation certificate) to
donations.nsw@tomra.com. - Once approved, your school will appear in the list of “Charities” when anyone downloads and opens the R&E app.
- It generally asks you for a duration & goal - usually up for 6 months. The numbers you give are not important - after 6 months they email saying do you want extend, and then you say yes please, and it just rolls on.
SETTING up the APP for 1st time users :
- Download Return & Earn App
- Clock on Charities - and choose your school by typing name in searchbar
- Click “set as payout”. From then onwards it will credit any donations/dropped bottles to the P&C account nominated in above SET UP.
USING the APP for users at their local Reverse Vending machines :
- Arrive at Reverse Vending Machine. You can check app for which ones are closest, and see opening times & if they are full.
- TIP: good to check as weekends can be busy, full & closed early.
- Open app
- Scan the barcode *BEFORE starting to throw in bottles*
- Feed bottles into machine
- Hit Transfer. It will tell you how much is transferring to your School & you can see it in your app / send it as a screengrab
HOW WE SET UP bins next to dropoff gate (One day a week)
To set up BINS System:
- Create account with Depot:
https://www.lanecovereturnandearn.com.au/account-set-up - Give them your school P&C/organisation Bank account details that you’d like $ to go to.
- Pay $70 for initial bin - this is to cover the loan a bin every week. Then, the fee for weekly collection of that loaned is only $50 for a whole year!
- So total cost for 1st year = $120
- Every year after that = $50/yr
- Need to add on another Bin $77/year - just contact greentick.au@gmail.com
Our BINS System is:
- Book bin collection on/before a Friday
https://lanecovereturnandearn.vwork.io/jobs - Monday arvo: Roll bins out from inside the school (next to canteen where they live) - to outside the dropoff gate before school gates close.
- Parents drop-off their containers when dropping off kids, into the bin/s on a Tuesday morning (can also bring on a Monday evening).
- Lane Cove Depot collects the bin/s & replaces them with empty ones (mostly sometime between 9am - 5pm)
- Roll empty bin/s back into school next to canteen
- Receive email with total containers from week
Signage for Bins -
- You can simply click this link and it will open up our posters which you can use as a template. *pls see below for images of these*
https://canva.link/ky8ztsjkinhjitb - To adapt - feel free just to make a copy of the ones you want, change dates/ names / images as you like - and export as PDF.
- Print / take to officeworks - print to A3 & laminate.
- We stick to recycled corflute.
- We cut a slit at the top of the corflute above the poster (not cutting into the poster/laminate, otherwise rain goes in - and bend a wire hangar into it so that we can hang/hook the signs on to the bins
- (Sometimes they blow away in high wind - so hanging them in non-wind direction is recommended.)
- When Lane Cove Depot comes to collect the bin/s, they just unhook the signs, take away the full bins, and hook the signs onto the new empty bins they replace them with.
BINS System FAQs answered:
Overview
Return & Earn is the NSW container deposit scheme. Eligible drink containers earn 10c each — you can either drop them at a reverse vending machine using the app (donations go straight to your community), or run a weekly bin collection on-site with a Depot partner.
Why it matters
Every container kept out of landfill saves roughly 20g of CO₂, and the money raised is real — most active school programs bring in $500–$2,000 a year for playgrounds, gardens or sustainability projects.
